Years ago, organisations stemming from the Internet were considered counter-cultural.
But in 2016, these organisations who were born and raised through the Web can be looked upon as visionaries.
Social media is proving to play a pivotal role in building and sustaining audiences, and not just in a way that comes through the back door.
Virtual marketing website Diply, for instance, started in London in 2013 with a focus on creative ideas, projects, and people; it is essentially a source for click bait (dipley.com).
In barely three years, it has transformed into one of the most visited sites on the Internet.
In August 2015, Diply was dubbed the 20th most popular site in the United States with 54 million monthly unique visitors, and 120 million unique visitors globally (Bialer).

Diply has over 100 employees working out of its London, Ontario base and shows no signs of slowing down.
In Peterborough, PTBOCanada has recently grown into one of the most reliable news sources for Peterborough and the surrounding area.
As stated in their mandate upon launching in May of 2010, "we provide a fresh perspective on local subject matter, and use social media to engage readers and create highly shareable content for the social web" (ptbocanada.com).
PTBOCanada's uniquely homegrown tactics have come through its social media, aside from regular appearances on Peterborough radio stations The Wolf 101.5 and FRESH 100.5 all of their content is distributed online.
With over 30 000 social followers on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, co-founders Neil Morton and Evan Holt have ought to be pleased with the progress of their organisation (ptbocanada.com).
PTBOCanada is also extremely transparent with the community and this attitude sits well with followers on social media. Their willingness to put the spotlight on ordinary people doing extraordinary things, as inspired by Peterborough follower
Both PTBOCanada and Diply value the need to be driving on a two-way street with their followers.
